Hi, I am Bart
In 2011, I journeyed to Alta, Norway, located in the heart of the Arctic, to visit a dear friend, Elisabeth, who is now my life partner. Here I learned that the harsh Arctic climate doesn't stop people from enjoying the outdoors . " No bad weather, just bad clothes " is what the Norwegians say.
Despite the fact that the high North has months when the sun does not rise above the horizon, it is not completely dark during that time. The breathtaking colours that nature regularly showcases are astonishing. The Northern Lights, as well as the pink, purple, orange and golden sky during the winter months, are unique to this area and something I have never experienced before.
During my years as a high-performance athlete (and later as coach) I expected the best and most from everything that could impact my results, from myself to my equipment, team, coaches and those around me in private settings. Control, a make-able world.
Approaching the Arctic outdoors like this doesn't work. You have to be humble, nature leads, be prepared, and approach it with respect.
Being a part of this nature, the immense space and the quietness of these areas brought me a lot of awareness and peace I had not experienced before.
Through countless ski, bike, and hiking trips, I have come to realise the beauty and wonder that the Arctic region has to offer. It is my passion to share these experiences with you and unlock the door to this incredible area for those seeking to explore and embrace it.
With my new company Arctic Nomads I organise guided tours, I want to provide you the opportunity to join me through these stunning regions and discover the peace and serenity it can bring to your life."
